A former Manchester City star has landed a huge five-figure payday after winning a poker tournament, and it's not the first time they have demonstrated their sensational card skills.

What players do after retiring is a hot-topic. Some turn to management to continue their love story with football, others invest their wealth in business, and as in this case - some learn a new skill.

Challenging yourself amongst the world's best poker players is a daunting task, but an ex-Premier League winner appears to have taken to the game as naturally as they did when learning to kick a ball.

Other footballers have also impressed around the table with Neymar one of the most high-profile athletes involved after previously winning thousands in an online poker tournament.

Now another south American has done the same having already won £8000 in a similar competition last year.

Sergio Aguero starred at a GGPoker tournament by beating top opponents to take home a grand £42,000 prize pot in what was a huge win for the Argentine.

The legendary former Man City striker previously retired from football on the grounds of medical advice in 2021 at the age of 33 and has been trying to find new opportunities to stay active ever since.

Aguero had just departed England to join Barcelona but was advised to quit playing after it was discovered he was suffering with an irregular heartbeat.

A tear-jerking retirement announcement followed at the Camp Nou and he is now forging a career outside of professional football.

His latest poker triumph saw Aguero beat fellow Argentine and professional poker player Damian Salas - who is believed to have won over £3m during his career - in a game of heads-up.
