Carlos Alcaraz breaks US Open record that had stood for 66 years before tournament even begins
Carlos Alcaraz has broken another US Open record before the tournament even gets underway.
The defending champion goes into the tournament as the youngest ever no.1 seed at the age of 20.
Alcaraz beats the previous record set by Ashley Cooper in 1957, with the Spaniard 234 days younger that Cooper who set the previous record 66 years ago.
He also previously set the record to be the youngest man to be ranked at number one in the world, doing so at 19 years, four months, and six days old.
While Alcaraz has his sights set on retaining the US Open men's singles title, it will also give him the opportunity to scoop his second Grand Slam of the year so far.
The two-time major winner saw off the challenge of 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon this year, beating him in a five-set thriller in SW19 back in July.
As well as scooping the most iconic crown in tennis, he also ended Djokovic's 34-match unbeaten streak at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
The duo have since met at the final of the Cincinnati Open, this time with Djokovic taking the win in three sets.
With the Serbian star heading into the US Open as the no.2 seed, fans will be hoping to see the duo face off in another Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows.
