Chelsea scouts were reportedly in attendance at Anfield to watch Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.
The Italian outfit stunned Liverpool 3-0 in the Europa League, leaving Jurgen Klopp's team with an uphill battle ahead of the second leg in Bergamo next week. Koopmeiners meanwhile, is having a sensational campaign, providing 17 goal contributions in 38 games in all competitions.
He is one of two players to reach double figures from midfield in the last two seasons in Europe's top five leagues — along with Manchester City's Phil Foden. Having been at Atalanta since 2021, there are rumours that this could be his last season at the Italian outfit as a host of clubs are eyeing a swoop.
Along with the Blues, Liverpool, Napoli and long-term admirers Juventus have also been credited with an interest. Liverpool missed out on the opportunity to sign him last summer while Juve could return with an offer at the end of the season.
According to a report from HITC, Chelsea officials scouted the midfielder in action earlier this week. They add that the Dutchman is valued at £60million.
The player, meanwhile, has previously revealed Atalanta are aware he wants to move on in the summer and wouldn't mind putting up with the rainy whether in England. He told De Telegraaf: «Last year there was concrete interest from Napoli. However, in the end the two clubs did not find an agreement.
»I have told Atalanta that I want to make a move next summer, but there has to be something really nice to swap that for Atalanta just like that. My fiancée and I are having a great time in Italy, but for some clubs in England I could even bear the rainy days there.
