Chiefs players argue after another match without scoring

Kaizer Chiefs players were arguing with each other in the change room after Sunday’s defeat at struggling Richards Bay, exasperated by their inability to find the net for a fourth successive match, interim coach Cavin Johnson revealed.

Chiefs were beaten 1-0 away in Umlazi by the second-from-bottom outfit in a surprise result despite AmaKhosi dominating proceedings at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium.

It was a fourth match without a goal for Chiefs and a fifth defeat in their last six games as they slipped down to 10th place in the DStv Premiership standings.

“I can tell you that my players are in the dressing room and they're actually arguing with each other, because these are things that we know we should do better,” Johnson told reporters after the match.

“Again, it was one of those games where your opposition has one chance all game and scores. You have 85 per cent ball possession but are not able to win the game. So yes, we are very angry with ourselves,” the coach added.

“I thought we should have won the game in the first half. Second half was a little bit different. But in the first half, we had a lot of possession, we got in the box quite a few times. And we should have put together the combinations or the calmness and scored the goals, but it was not to be.

“We have to go back and we have to start again. Even though we've only got six games left now, we have to make something happen. The tide has to turn for Kaizer Chiefs somewhere,” Johnson insisted.

“We have to get better in front of goals because as far as ball possession is concerned, as far as playing the right
