Todd Boehly hopes Cole Palmer will become popular in the United States of America as the club looks to increase their reach stateside.
Chelsea have been owned by a consortium of investors led by Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Boehly and private equity giant Clearlake Capital since May 2022. It has been a turbulent first couple of years at Stamford Bridge under Boehly's co-ownership with the club finishing 12th in 2022/23 whilst currently sitting seventh this season.
But there have been glimmers of improvement in recent weeks as the Blues look to secure European football. Chelsea thrashed West Ham 5-0 last time out after beating London rivals Tottenham 2-0.
And Chelsea's standout player this term, Cole Palmer, has drawn acknowledgement from Boehly as he discusses how the Premier League can grow in the US. The former Manchester City player has scored 24 goals across all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino's side so far this season.
«You have to make it relevant to them (young people),” Boehly said via the Athletic. “And I think the sport is becoming more and more relevant. The window that they have on the east coast in particular Saturday morning and Sunday morning — where there’s nothing really that competes with other sports — really gives it a great opportunity to reach
“The fan fests that the Premier League do from city to city, you see them, it only builds momentum. Hopefully, Cole Palmer will become a household name (here) soon. He’s been a phenomenon for us and so we’re thinking hard about how we continue to expand our brand in the United States. That’s ultimately a priority as well.
