Chelsea were highly impressive against champions Manchester City as the points were shared in a gripping eight-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge. Cole Palmer's stoppage time penalty against his former club meant the points were shared at SW6.
City took the lead after Anthony Taylor, who is not the most loved man at Stamford Bridge, gave a penalty as Marc Cucurella was deemed to have fouled Erling Haaland back inside the box. Haaland was then on hand to convert it from 12 yards.
However, Chelsea reacted superbly when Thiago Silva headed the ball past Ederson from a corner with a perfectly placed effort. Stamford Bridge was in full voice and then somehow got louder moments later.
Raheem Sterling tapped in at the far post after some brilliant work from Reece James on the right-hand side to give Chelsea the lead. Sterling was subdued in his celebrations against his former club but everyone in the stadium knew just how big the goal was.
Manuel Akanji, however, headed home on the stroke of half-time to level the game for the champions at Stamford Bridge. And just after the break, Chelsea made the worst possible start to the second-half with Haaland on hand to once again give the visitors the advantage in a soaking wet west London.
Nicolas Jackson, however, grabbed his fourth goal in just two games after he capitalised on a loose ball following Gallagher's shot being palmed away by Ederson. But City came again.
