Munster Youth Cup
College Corinthians 2
Carrigaline United 0
For the first time in their illustrious history, College Corinthians lifted the Jako Ireland Munster Youth Cup as they defeated Carrigaline United in the final at a refurbished Turner’s Cross on Wednesday night.
Second half goals from Brian O’Sullivan Connell and Aaron Gui proved to be the difference between the two Cork teams on the night and ensured Corinthians added another title to their long roll of honour.
This showpiece occasion marked the reopening of Turner’s Cross after almost a month out of action.
Extensive work was required on the playing surface after it suffered significant damage during Cork City’s victory over Cobh Ramblers on April 5.
Carrigaline initially made the most of the new pitch as they controlled possession and created a number of goal-scoring opportunities in the first half, but they just couldn’t find a way past Corinthians goalkeeper Raymond Foley Kiss.
United had a glorious chance to break the deadlock just past the half an hour mark as they were awarded a penalty following a foul on Temidayo Best Alade.
Calum Landa took responsibility for the spot kick, but Raymond Foley Kiss guessed correctly, dived to his left and tipped the attacker’s effort against his post.
The Castletreasure club regrouped during the interval, and they got the reward in the 62nd minute when Brian O’Sullivan Connell superbly slotted the ball into the back of the net from close range.
Carrigaline, to their credit, battled until the very end but a stunning strike from Aaron Gui that nestled in the far corner secured the silverware for College Corinthians.
