Confirmed Chelsea starting lineup vs Newcastle as Badiashile and Ugochukwu start, Caicedo bench
Mauricio Pochettino has made two changes to his Chelsea side that faces Newcastle United, with Benoit Badiashile making his first start of the season and Lesley Ugochukwu starting in midfield.
Robert Sanchez once again starts in goal for Chelsea and racks up is 100th Premier League appearance as a result. He will be shielded with a changed backline.
The Blues boss confirmed on Friday that Reece James would start the game, and could have the opportunity to complete 90 minutes for the first time following injury. The 23-year-old captains the west London side against the Magpies, having scored a brace in his last outing at St James' Park in 2021.
James is joined by Badiashile, Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella in the backline. Levi Colwill has proven fit enough to take a place on the bench following his shoulder injury, while Axel Disasi is also on the bench having been away with France.
Moises Caicedo drops to the bench after only returning to training with the Blues on Friday. Ugochukwu takes his place at the base of midfield and is joined by Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher in the centre of midfield.
Chelsea's front three once again sees Nicolas Jackson lead the line after netting four goals in his last two games, with support from Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling who both netted against Manchester City in their last Premier League outing.
The game came too soon for Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia, though the latter has joined in with some team training in the build up to the match against Newcastle.
