Damien Duff says he is ashamed and embarrassed by the Shelbourne fan who threw an object injuring assistant referee Dermot Broughton during last night's 2-2 draw with Drogheda United at Weavers Park.
The result maintains Shels' unbeaten shart to the season, but the game was overshadowed by the incident, which injured Broughton and caused the game to be stopped for 20 minutes close to the end.
Speaking to LOITV and Shels media after the game, the Shelbourne boss raged at the actions of the unidentified fan, saying it will have all the clubs' supporters tarred with the same brush.
Of the official, Duff said: "I will go in and see him now. I think he's okay, the fact that he came back, but shameful and embarrassing for the football club.
"The person that did it should be embarrassed of themselves. Their family should be embarrassed of them.
"Shelbourne Football Club, the away fans, the home fans, everybody should be embarrassed by their behaviour and they shouldn't be allowed come to a game again.
"Chant, say, sing what you want. Be as loud as you want.
"To throw an object at another human being, whether it is walking out on the street, on a football pitch, wherever.
“It is totally unacceptable to raise a hand or throw an object at someone in this day and age, whether it be on the street or at a football game, that is just absolutely embarrassing and one person has embarrassed the whole club tonight."
Duff added: “I love our fans. They have been amazing. I think they are the best fans in the country.
