Last summer, David de Gea's contract with Manchester United came to an end and both parties opted not to renew it. The goalkeeper opened himself up to an uncertain future, with several Saudi Arabian clubs taking positions that did not convince him. Now, a year later, he is ready to play again.
He has been rumoured to rejoin the Red Devils, to sign for Newcastle and even to play for Barcelona. In a post on his social media, he was shown training with England fifth-tier side Altrincham FC who work at the same facility as Manchester United's academy.
The complex is located in Greater Manchester, so the Spanish goalkeeper has not had to relocate since leaving Erik ten Hag's side. At 33 years of age and despite his season-long lay-off, he is convinced that he has what it takes to fight for an important place in a big team.
During this time without playing, De Gea has not been particularly active in the public sphere beyond the occasional interaction with his E-Sports team, in which he has the camaraderie of Bruno Fernandes.
