Dejan Kulusevski has had his say on a number of the controversial incidents in Sunday's North London Derby which saw Arsenal hang on to a 3-2 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A chaotic derby saw Spurs control much of the first half with 72% possession but manage to gift the visitors three goals before grabbing back two in the second half through Cristian Romero and captain Son Heung-min but they could not find a late leveller. Criticism came Tottenham's way for conceding two more goals from set-pieces, making it 14 for the season from such situations.
When asked about those set-piece woes after the game by football.london, Ange Postecoglou admitted the defending from them was poor on the day but said there were other more fundamental issues that he felt were more important in fixing to get Tottenham to reach the level he wants them to be next season in competing with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
Kulusevski, who became a father last week for the first time, believes the gap between Spurs and the Gunners is not that big but the mentality around issues like set pieces must be fixed.
«No it is not [a big gap], but they are much more disciplined. Much more disciplined and a little bit more mature. That is where we are lacking at the moment,» said the 24-year-old before clarifying what he meant by that. «They score on corners. We concede. It is quite easy. Being strong in difficult moments like a set-piece. Things like that.»
Kulusevski confirmed that was the message from Postecoglou to the players after the game and the winger admitted that an improvement in mentality will be key to the transformation of the club.
