Dermot Desmond has been told he should adopt the City Football Group model with Celtic and buy up more football clubs.
The group behind Manchester City have the network that owns 11 different football clubs located all in major cities all across the globe, including Melbourne, Mumbai and New York. They also own J-League side Yokohama F Marinos as well as La Liga outfit Girona and have become synonymous with success since forming in 2013 off the back of purchasing The Sky Blues.
And former Parkhead goalkeeper Pat Bonner has revealed he has urged the Scottish Premiership champions majority shareholder to follow the blueprint adopted by the Man City owners on their way to seven English Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy. He reckons a League of Ireland club should be top of Desmond's list should he adopt the strategy he has personally pitched the supremo - naming Shamrock Rovers as a candidates.
Speaking to Celtic TV, Bonner said: "I’ve been talking to Dermot Desmond a few times I mentioned that we should have a club over there. We should have a club in the League of Ireland and run the whole thing.
“That will be lovely, a feeder club. Man City do it all over the world, why can we not do it? I know we’ve got a connection with Shamrock Rovers too with what Dermot Desmond’s doing.
