'El Iniestazo' at Stamford Bridge turns 15 years old
On 6 May 2009, Barcelona beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with a wonderstrike by Andres Iniesta to qualify for the Champions League final. Now, 15 years later, Barcelona and the player remember that feat on Chelsea's pitch.
The football world is divided between those who hail Iniesta's goal, also known as the second most important goal of his career, and those who call it a robbery and point the finger directly at Ovrebo, who was the referee for the match.
The only thing that is certain is that Barcelona went through to the final thanks to 'El Iniestazo', that is, the thunderbolt from the edge of the box netted by the Spanish player in the 93rd minute to make it 1-1 in the match.
"15 years of this moment. One of the best goals of my life, for how it happened and for what it meant," Iniesta wrote on Monday on X, the 15th anniversary of one of the goals that changed his life.
While Barcelona fans remember Iniesta's goal, Blues fans cry out against the Norwegian referee. Chelsea claimed up to five penalties in the match, with clear over-excitement on the Stamford Bridge pitch.
