Eric Dier has claimed that he's playing the 'best football of his career' at Bayern Munich and deserves a spot in England's Euro 2024 squad.
The former Tottenham defender, who has been a regular for the German giants since his loan move in January, believes he should be considered for the national team despite being overlooked by Gareth Southgate for March's final camp before the Euros squad announcement.
Dier, who hasn't played for England since their World Cup last-16 win over Senegal in December 2022, expressed his desire to be part of the England set-up during an interview with The Overlap podcast. «Obviously, I want to be a part of the England set-up and I believe that I should be a part of it, that I'm that level of a player,» he said.
The centre-back also revealed that he hasn't spoken to Southgate about his omission but remains hopeful. «I haven't spoken at all to Southgate, but you try and play as well as possible for your club and then the decision is out of your hands.»
Reflecting on his form, Dier added: «Since the World Cup, I wouldn't say that I've had any dip in form, I'm playing the best football of my career since (Antonio) Conte came (to Tottenham in 2021) and I've carried it on since I've been here, and I think I've shown that.»
Despite some thinking he's nearing the end of his career, Dier was quick to correct them. «People think that I'm 37 or something, but I'm 30 years-old and am nowhere near the end of my prime and imagine that this will be my prime.»
