The Everton players are back in for pre-season as they embark on another year in the Premier League. Two players that will not be involved at Goodison Park this season are Ellis Simms and Ishe Samuels-Smith. Coventry City have sealed a deal for the former that could be worth £8m to the Blues, while teenager Samuels-Smith has signed for Chelsea.

There is a sense of inevitability surrounding both exits, however, with Sean Dyche sure to be keen on strengthening his ranks in order to avoid another battle against relegation. On that front, Everton are said to lead top-flight rivals Aston Villa as well as beaten Champions League finalists Inter Milan in the race to sign Leeds United's 9-year-old Italy international Wilfried Gnonto.

Reports also broke on Saturday night, revealing that the Blues are in talks to sign former Manchester United and Aston Villa star Ashley Young, after the 38-year-old "turned down a number of other offers" from the Premier League and the Championship.
