Jake Peacock, the one-handed son of former Chelsea player Gavin Peacock, has once again shattered expectations by securing a dominant victory in his latest Muay Thai bout.
In his impressive ONE Championship debut on Friday, Peacock clinched a decisive points win over Kohei Shinjo. Despite being born with a congenital condition that left him without a lower right arm, Peacock has not let this deter him from pursuing a successful fighting career.
The 30-year-old fighter may be missing a right hand, but he more than compensates with his adept use of his other limbs. His performance against Shinjo was a testament to this, as he skillfully combined kicks and elbows to sway the judges in his favour. Peacock lauded his coach Steve Groom for treating him as a complete fighter, despite his physical difference.
Peacock shared his thoughts with Sky Sports: «There might be some scepticism and doubt, but when they see my abilities and what I've been able to do, hopefully that's motivating for people and inspiring. That's to be expected really but I hope that people will be inspired by that,» adding, «I'm very fortunate because the first person I trained under was Steve Groom and he didn't even make a deal about it,» reports the Mirror.
«Just like my parents, they let me get on with stuff and let me live my life. They let me figure it out and Steve is the same, both my parents and Steve have been very influential. My whole family really, my grandparents and everyone. They've been very influential in how I've developed and there's been no ceiling over my head as far as heights I can reach.»
