Ex-Tottenham defender is SACKED as manager of ninth-tier Skelmersdale United

A former Tottenham defender has been sacked as manager of ninth-tier club Skelmersdale United.

The 45-year-old  took the job with the North West Counties League Premier Division  side in mid-October after their poor start to the season.

Their struggles continued as they went on to win just eight matches from 34 before suffering relegation.

And Pascal Chimbonda has been relieved of his duties after Skelmersdale finished bottom of the league.

A statement released by the club said: 'On behalf of everyone at Skelmersdale United FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Pascal for all his efforts during his time with the club.

'Pascal joined the club when it was rooted to the bottom of the table, with the aim to resurrect the club's fortunes.

'And whilst there were many memories during his six-month tenure, it didn't quite work out the way either party had anticipated.'

'As such the club believe it's time to regroup and seek a new appointment.'

In November, Chimbonda reportedly swore at his players 72 times at half-time n a bid to ignite passion in his struggling non-league players in a 6-0 loss.

A month later he was handed a five-match stadium ban after being sent off. Following appeal, the Lancashire-based club confirmed that their manager's punishment had been reduced to a three-game touchline ban.

Chimbonda then sensationally registered himself to play for Skelmersdale and went on to make four appearances.

Skelmersdale players are part-time and balance their footballing commitments with other jobs. The club have bounced between the eighth and ninth tiers in recent seasons.
