Fabinho transfer delay 'explained' as dog issue cleared up ahead of Liverpool exit

Fabinho is on the cusp of leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia - and new reports from Brazil may have explained why there is a delay to the deal.

The Reds received a £40 million bid from Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad earlier this month.

But nothing appears to have progressed in recent days, with some accounts suggesting the move could be in jeopardy due to legislation regarding the import of certain breeds of animal into the Gulf state.

Fabinho and his family own two French bulldogs and it has been reported he was seeking 'clarity' over the situation regarding his beloved pets.

However, Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte claim to have contacted Fabinho's camp to clear up the rumours.

Their article states: "In contact with people close to Fabinho, [we] found out that the trip of his two dogs to Saudi Arabia is not a concern. And it was never an obstacle in the transfer. The Brazilian [has agreed terms] with Al-Ittihad, but the operation has not yet been completed due to bureaucratic details."

The Globo Esporte story adds: "On Sunday, representatives of the Saudi club were in London. The government of the Asian nation, owner of the money for the investment, released the funds."

Rather than a canine problem, the final hurdle may instead be a technical one with "bank proof" needed before funds can be transferred, according to the report.

The article also says: "A document from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture is clear regarding the breeds prohibited in Saudi Arabia. In the list, the French bulldog does not appear."
