Eagle-eyed fans noticed Jordan Henderson's rainbow armbands have been edited in his Al Ettifaq announcement video.
The midfielder has made the move from Liverpool to Saudi Arabia after 12 years at Anfield, where he made 492 appearances.
Henderson will receive £700,000-a-week after penning a three-year contract in the Middle East, while Al Ettifaq have paid the Reds £12million for his services.
It comes after Steven Gerrard made the signing of the England international a priority after becoming the Saudi side's manager.
But the transfer has not been without controversy due to Henderson's allegiance to LGBQT+ groups.
The 33-year-old has been a vocal ally for the minority groups in the past but many have been left scorned after moving to a country where homosexuality is illegal and punishable by death.
And, in a post on social media, Al Ettifaq courted more controversy as they appeared to edit out the rainbow colours of some of captain armbands Henderson wore during his Liverpool spell.
In what appears on the surface to be a stylistic choice to highlight his role as captain, every photograph of Henderson in a Liverpool kit featured his left upper arm and skipper's band made black and white in contrast to his all-red kit.
But supporters noticed that there was probably another reason why they made the change, as rainbows have commonly been adopted by LGBQT+ groups.
One reply to the video announcement read: «Making the armbands black and white so you can't see the rainbow. We see you.»
Another wrote: «It would appear that Ettifaq have made a stylistic choice to grey out the colour of most of Jordan Henderson’s captain armbands in this video.
»I’m sure it has nothing to do with some of them featuring the rainbow LGBTQ+ flag though…"
