FIFA set for transfer rule change that impacts Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham in January window

FIFA are set to be forced into making a U-turn on their pledge to cap agent fees from transfers they help secure in the market. That's due to UK football agencies winning a legal battle with the footballing governing body in recent days, causing the sudden change in legislation once again.

FIFA announced their intentions of placing a cap in December 2022 during the Qatar World Cup, with president Gianni Infantino discussing such in a press conference. A statement later read: «This marks a landmark step towards the establishment of a fairer and more transparent football transfer system.

»The new regulations introduce basic service standards for football agents and their clients, all with the objective of reinforcing contractual stability, protecting the integrity of the transfer system and achieving greater financial transparency." This was met with some disapproval from impacted agency groups.

Just earlier this year, a Dortmund court ruled in favour of German agency groups, stating that they won't have to follow the same guidelines set out by FIFA. There were claims of «anti-competitive» measures put in place, leading to a landmark case in overturning the ruling.

In the case of UK agencies, they bound forces to create their own legal charge, which included representatives for some of the biggest names in world football. CAA Stellar founder Jonathan Barnett made a joint-claim alongside Rafaela Pimenta, the heir to Mino Raiola's throne following his untimely passing.
