OGC Nice sporting director Florent Ghisolfi believes that Khéphren Thuram (22) has retained his market value, despite a frustrating season for the Frenchman.
Thuram was one of the most sought-after players on the market last summer, with Liverpool notably interested in the midfielder. However, he ultimately remained at the Allianz Riviera for a further season. “I wanted to continue to progress at Nice, and progress as a player at this club. Honestly, it made me happy to be linked to all these clubs left, right and centre. It shows I’m doing the right things but as I said, I knew I wanted to stay here,” he said in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News, back in November.
The move was at least in part motivated by a desire to earn a place in Didier Deschamps’ France squad ahead of the Euros, but he has now not been picked since March 2023 and his chances of featuring for Les Bleus in Germany this summer have diminished as the season has passed.
With no goals or assists this season, there is also concern that Thuram’s market value has decreased at a time when a departure would be expected. However, Ghisolfi asserts that this is not the case. “The question isn’t his value, it is how do we exploit his infinite potential. At his age, with his international CV, he is still priceless. For me, he isn’t having a very average season, and that is the opinion of his (European) observers too. His season has been tarnished by his lack of stats and his injury but the content of his matches is good,” Ghisolfi told L’Équipe.
