Even with a squad that is too large for Mauricio Pochettino's liking, Chelsea's work over the summer has been completed on an unprecedented scale.
12 months into their tenure as owners and BlueCo have completed more than 60 transfers both in and out of the club. It hasn't just been a total youth trading system either, though plenty of deals like that have been done along the way.
It is the first team overhaul that has seen the most attention due to the sheer volume of change. Stockpiling players, albeit in a very different way to the youth drive of the new regime, was one of the undesirable characteristics of the previous ownership and it resulted in a massive backlog of players. The fact that so many of those that left earlier this year had two years left on their deal or had underperformed on their way to having just three, left a massive group of overpaid stars with little product.
That has largely been cleared from the books now with some of the club's highest earners no longer part of the squad. Of the top 15 earners in the 2022/23 season, nine of them are no longer at Chelsea. Considering, as well, that the highest earner, Romelu Lukaku, isn't amongst those due to his loan covering wage payment, it is quite the financial boost.
