Luis Rubiales brought to a close his reign as president of the Spanish football federation in an interview with British journalist Pier Morgan.
Rubailes, during his reign, oversaw notable developments in Spanish football, including the tripling of the federation's annual income, modernising of the federation's communication department and improving the overall welfare of Women's football teams.

Football Julen Lopetegui sackingBarely four weeks into his reign as Spain's FA boss, Rubiales made the headline after his surprise decision to fire then-coach Julen Lopetegui two days before the start of the FIFA World Cup in Russia upon finding out the coach already agreed to take up the vacant role at Real Madrid at the end of the World Cup.
Rubiales immediately replaced Lopetegui with former Real Madrid captain Fernando Hierro. However, the defender could only cost the 2010 champions as far as the round of 16, where they eventually lost to host Russia on penalties.
