Jessica Foy knows what it takes to win a League title. The Glentoran Women captain has the medals to prove it.
Winning before doesn’t alter the gambit of emotions that comes with being on the brink of another Sports Direct Women’s Premiership crown.
The Glens top the table, unbeaten after 15 games, and face defending champions Cliftonville Ladies knowing that the League is now within their grasp.
Victory for Glentoran will leave the Reds in a position that – even with two games in hand – the best they can do is finish level on points, thus head-to-head record, which comes into account rather than goal difference, would see the title handed over.
Although now experienced in these circumstances having captained the Glens to the title in 2020 and 2021, there are some things that can’t be controlled.
There are still nerves, and pressure hangs around too, but Foy knows all that comes with chasing trophies, and that’s where the excitement at the prospect of playing a game with the title on the line kicks in.
Now, all that is left is to ensure that the performance is one worthy of champions.
“We always say, ‘one more game’; this is one more big game, and we know the added pressure that is coming with it,” said Foy.
“We have prepared ourselves as best as we can, and the one thing we are going to ask of ourselves is to go out and put in the best performance, and hopefully that way, the result will take care of itself.
