Francesco Farioli is now the new priority at Ajax after Graham Potter rejected the chance to become the Dutch giant’s next manager, according to Gianluca Di Marzio .
The Englishman had been the first in line for the role but decided against a move to a club that has had a tumultuous campaign. Potter has not worked since being fired from Chelsea midway through last season despite a variety of job offers coming his way.
The swap in focus from Potter to Farioli from Ajax was not unexpected. The OGC Nice manager has already addressed the stories linking him to the role with the statement, “ Rumours are only rumours and they should stay rumours .”
Despite this denial, Di Marzio believes that Farioli has discussed the opportunity with Ajax and that the conversations about leaving France for the Netherlands have progressed positively.
Nice will not be particularly keen to hear their manager being linked with a move away from the south coast with the club still in the hunt for a Champions League place with only three games of their season remaining.
