Real Madrid have enjoyed yet another stellar season in European football as the Spanish giants are on course for yet another league and Champions League double. Last Saturday was a significant step towards the landmark after the Los Blancos secured their 36th La Liga title with a 3-0 win over Cadiz. However, the club has now confirmed that they won’t be lifting the La Liga title at the end of their next match against Granada in a fitting display of sportsmanship.
Real Madrid won’t lift La Liga title at Granada
While much of the eyes are on the Wednesday (May 8) evening fixture against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the Los Blancos travel to Granada on Saturday for their latest La Liga clash. Having won La Liga after Girona’s win over Barcelona, Saturday will be the first time Real will come out on the field as official champions. This also presents them the opportunity to lift the La Liga title in the backyard of Granada who are struggling with relegation.
Unlike English football, where the league championship is presented in the final home game of the season, in Spain the trophy is presented in the club’s first official game after being crowned champions.

However, with Granada likely to get relegated if they lose to Real, the record Spanish champions have decided against lifting the trophy and will instead lift it in a private ceremony. This comes after the Real board and players wanted to respect the emotions of Granada fans and the club as a whole who could have an emotional outing on Saturday.
The decision has been greeted with open arms by the Spanish football fraternity with plenty of respect shown towards Real Madrid
