Michael Owen fears the departure of Jurgen Klopp could see Liverpool fall away in a similar manner to Manchester United following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Klopp will leave Anfield at the end of the season later this month after almost nine years in charge during which he guided the Reds to become champions of England, Europe and the world as well as winning the FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the Community Shield.
Liverpool have identified Feyenoord boss Arne Slot as Klopp's replacement having agreed a compensation deal for the Dutchman, whose appointment is close to being officially confirmed.

Owen, who spent seven years in the Reds first team before leaving in 2004, also had a spell at United before Ferguson left after 27 years in charge in 2013, after which the Old Trafford side haven't come close to adding to their record 20 titles.
Ferguson's immediate replacement David Moyes struggled to follow in the footsteps of his fellow Scot, and Owen said: "I fear it's a possibility for Liverpool (to have a similar decline as United) but I hope it's not and by the time the season kicks off, everyone will be full of optimism again with a new manager, a new way of playing perhaps and one or two signings, but I don't think there will be wholesale changes. I don't think he plays in a vastly different way to how Liverpool do at the moment.
