One Nashville player has apologised to his wife for his plans on where he's going to hang Lionel Messi's shirt.
The Major Soccer League side lost to Messi's Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup final at the weekend, falling short on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
But whilst Nashville missed out on winners medals, one of their players still got to take home something he'll treasure forever.
Midfielder Dax McCarty, who previously played for New York Red Bulls and Chicago Fire, swapped shirts with Messi after the dramatic Leagues Cup finale.
Understandably, the 36-year-old took to Instagram after claiming the rare strip, posing with it in his home.
But he also followed it up with a hilarious apology to his wife, as he announced his plans on where he was going to keep his prize possession.
«Love my guys, proud of this group,» he said, reflecting on the loss.
Tagging his wife, he then added: «Jen Zyski McCarty, sorry but last slide is going in a frame above the bed.»
However, McCarty's wife wasn't too keen on his plans.
«No chance that's happening,» she replied in the comments.
Mrs McCarty certainly wasn't all doom and gloom about her husband retrieving one of the sport's greatest ever footballer's shirts, though.
Posting the same snap herself on Twitter, she wrote: «It smells like he sweats straight cologne!»
McCarty has made 489 MLS appearances and also represented the United States national team from 2009 to 2017, earning 13 caps in that time.
