Barcelona practically said goodbye to their hopes of winning La Liga at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 'Cules' saw Madrid pull off yet another comeback (3-2), leaving Xavi Hernandez's side 11 points adrift with 18 to play for.
'El Clasico' was not without controversy, with Lamine Yamal's 'ghost goal' generating widespread outrage among Barcelona fans. Ter Stegen was one of the first to speak out after the game and he spoke to the media in the mixed zone.
"It is a disgrace for football. I'm at a loss for words. This world moves a lot of money and it turns out that there is no money for what is important," said the goalkeeper on the absence of goal technology in the Spanish championship.
On the other hand, Ter Stegen indicated that they did not perform at the highest level defensively and admitted that the defeat was a blow. "We have to look at ourselves. We have not been at our best defensively. These are things that can't happen to us. On the one hand, we don't have the league title within our reach and, on the other hand, it was a hard blow," he said.
Finally, the German international spoke about whether the team lacked character against Madrid. "It's difficult to find words for that. It's an accumulation of many things. We haven't been at the level of competitiveness that we should have been. And that cost us points," he concluded.
