Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville passed his opinion on Jurgen Klopp’s situation at Liverpool as the club nears farewell to the legendary manager. Klopp, now in his final season with Liverpool had announced in January that he will be leaving the club. The decision looks to have back-fired as the Reds have gone from potential quadruple winners to just one trophy wonder for the current season. According to Neville, the decision to announce his departure could have been taken slightly towards the end of the season.

«Everyone said it was a positive thing. 'It's the farewell run-in. We all know. We can go and enjoy ourselves in Dublin and win four trophies. People were using it as a positive angle at one point. Now it's gone slightly wrong in terms of the performances.
»I think always think you should judge a team based on what you thought at the start of the season and if you had said to me 'Liverpool will win a trophy in the finished third'. I'd have said that was a bloody good season without a midfield at the start of the year and thinking that they were going to transition from this great team into this new team."

Neville compared Liverpool’s situation to Manchester United from 2001 when Sir Alex Ferguson announced his decision to leave the club. That decision had impacted the club’s performance. Ferguson would later announce the retirement in 2013 when United were guaranteed to win the Premier League title.
Neville suggested that Klopp should have announced the decision a little late perhaps at the end of the season.
