Former Olympique Lyonnais, Angers SCO and Arsenal midfielder Jeff Reine Adelaide (26) is stable in hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage whilst playing for Belgian side RWD Molenbeek yesterday, reports L’Équipe.
The Frenchman was observed overnight after medical exams provided reassuring results, which the player himself communicated with an Instagram message today that confirmed “More fear than damage”.
Medical tests have appeared to rule out possible after effects of the incident, in which the player took the full force of a ball to the face and was unconscious on the pitch before being quickly rushed to hospital.
Molenbeek coach Yannick Ferreira feared the worst after the game:
Molenbeek went on to lose 3-1 at home to Royal Charleroi SC, leaving them in danger of relegation from the Belgian Pro League with three games left to play.
