Jeff Stelling has taken a swipe at his former employers, Sky Sports, for their pundit and commentator selection during the Brighton vs Arsenal match. The ex-Soccer Saturday presenter raised eyebrows with his comments on the North London club's 3-0 victory at the Amex, where Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Leandro Trossard netted goals to propel Arsenal back to the top of the table.
Stelling, a staunch Hartlepool supporter, took to social media to express his bemusement at the choice of the broadcast team, which included Arsenal alumni Theo Walcott, Karen Carney, and Alan Smith in the commentary box.
He didn't criticise any specific moments from the coverage but questioned the decision-making behind the scenes. «Brighton v Arsenal has ex-Arsenal co-commentator and both pundits are ex-Arsenal,» he posted online. «Maybe next time Sky should be a bit more balanced. It is like using me on a Hartlepool game!!! ».
Further pressed on the issue, Stelling added: «Smudge [Alan Smith] is great. So when you have decided to use him on commentary, pick two neutrals as pundits. Or one from each side if you wish. Not brain surgery.»
A number of other social media users echoed the sentiments of the 69-year-old. «I've called this out before @JeffStelling as they do it all the time,» one user commented.
«This was a home game for Brighton too! Imagine tuning in if you were a home fan?!»
