Jose Mourinho believes Arsenal do not have what it takes to be considered as serious Premier League title challengers this season.
The Gunners led the way for large parts of the 2022/23 campaign before Manchester City's fine form in the second half of the season secured a third consecutive title win for Pep Guardiola's side. Mikel Arteta's side currently lead the way after 17 games played but face a tricky test against Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool this weekend.
Mourinho, who has won three English top-flight titles with Chelsea during his career, has issued some bold criticism regarding Arteta's men in recent days, sparking conversations as to whether the former Spurs boss again seems a little petulant in his ways all these years on.
Asked whether he believe Arsenal are genuine title contenders this season, Mourinho simply replied: «Nah,” before adding: “Rivalry apart, I would like them to win. Of course, Chelsea is not going to win. It is out of the question.
“Of course Manchester United is not going to win it too, I don't speak about Man Utd. So it is between these three and out of these three I would like Arsenal to win it. But 51, 49. And I say 51, 49 because when the accumulation of matches are coming Man City has two teams.”
Mourinho endured superb title-winning campaigns in 2004/05, 2005/06 and 2014/15 all with Chelsea. The former Blues boss has previously praised Arteta's capabilities, proving there is some level of respects between the pair.
