Jose Mourinho has taken another big step towards landing a new role in the world of football as the former Chelsea manager continues to be linked with the newly-vacant role at Stamford Bridge after Mauricio Pochettino's departure last night.
The Argentinian saw his contract terminated by mutual consent just 11 months into his stint in west London, following meetings on Monday night and Tuesday morning. Pochettino had managed to get the club European football for next season with their sixth-place finish in the Premier League, alongside a Carabao Cup final appearance and an FA Cup semi-final appearance.
Pochettino thanked those in charge of the club in the statement released to the club's website, saying: «Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club's history. The club is now well positioned to keep moving forward in the Premier League and Europe in the years to come.»
The result of it all now means the Blues will be looking for a new manager in the coming weeks, with a four-man shortlist already put together by the club, with names including Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna and Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca. Supporters have taken to social media to call for the re-appointment of previously-sacked manager Thomas Tuchel following his imminent departure from Bayern Munich.
