Kalvin Phillips has worst case West Ham scenario as Man City transfer dealt major blow

Kalvin Phillips might have to agree to a big pay cut if he wants to rejoin Leeds United, reports suggest. The England midfielder is currently struggling at West Ham having left Manchester City on loan in January.

Phillips is looking for a new permanent home after deciding to leave his difficult situation at Manchester City. Having found things tough since his move to the capital, remaining at City in the long run is growing increasingly unlikely.

The City bosses are ready to sell him come the summer, reports the Daily Star. Phillips, who was bought by City for £50million from Leeds in 2022, could be sold for around £25million and won't be short of teams wanting him, even though he's not been in form.

Leeds are one of the sides that would like to sign Phillips again if they can get promoted back to the Premier League. Despite leaving the club to some frustration, it is thought a return to Elland Road would be welcomed by the Championship side.

Phillips would need to accept a huge pay cut in order to make a move possible though. Patrick Bamford is the highest-paid player at Leeds with £70,000 a week, which is less than half of what Phillips gets currently.

Leeds chiefs aren't thought to be keen on breaking the club's pay structure to bring Phillips back and it's not clear if the 28-year-old would be happy to take less money at this stage. Newcastle are another side keen on the player but have financial constraints of their own.
