Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna is reporting that former OGC Nice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel (36) is set to sign for Belgian side Anderlecht.
Schmeichel left Nice on transfer deadline day. After a tough start to life at the Allianz Riviera, the former Leicester City ended last season on a high, putting in some impressive performances. However, Marcin Bulka (23) is highly rated at the club, and the arrival of Francesco Farioli as manager this summer signalled a change between the sticks.
Bulka, previously of Paris Saint-Germain, won the battle for the number one jersey. It was always expected that whoever lost that battle would leave the club. And so it came to pass. Schmeichel, who hadn’t been included in any matchday squads for Les Aiglons this season, saw his contract terminated by mutual consent on deadline day.
However, he looks to have already found a new club. According to Aouna, the Danish goalkeeper has successfully completed a medical ahead of a move to Anderlecht. He is set to sign a one-year deal with the Belgian club later on Tuesday.
