OGC Nice boss makes Khephren Thuram transfer admission after Liverpool links
OGC Nice's sporting director Florent Ghisolfi has announced "a departure could happen" when asked about the future of Liverpool-linked midfielder Khephren Thuram beyond this summer.
Even before the Reds announced the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister or Dominik Szoboszlai, Thuram was tipped to become a Jurgen Klopp signing. The 22-year-old has showcased pace, power and precision as he rose through the ranks in Ligue 1, all characteristics the Anfield club's midfield was lacking last season.
Many supporters anticipated an official move would come once his involvement in France's European Under-21 Championship campaign came to an end, barring no injury scares. That time passed on Sunday, July 2, with only a barrage of media abuse to speak of, and 26 days later there has been no further whispers.
Lately Romeo Lavia has been expected to become Liverpool's latest midfield signing, perhaps due to his defensive credentials outweighing Thuram's as Fabinho inches closer to an exit. However Reds boss Klopp has been handed a lifeline to should he wish to make the Frenchman a fourth midfield addition as a replacement to Jordan Henderson.
Speaking to the press at the unveiling of new signings Jeremie Boga and Morgan Sanson on Friday, Ghisolfi was cross-examined about outgoings at Nice, particularly stances on both Thuram and centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo, who has also been linked with Liverpool this summer.
