Kylian Mbappe was given a brutal 3/10 rating by French newspaper L’Equipe after Paris Saint-Germain’s defeat to Barcelona.
The Frenchman was named in the PSG starting line up against Barcelona on Wednesday evening. But it did not quite go to plan for Mbappe.
He failed to get on the scoresheet as the French champions slumped to a 3-2 loss at the Parc des Princes. And the French outlet - infamous for their brutal player ratings - pulled no punches with their assessment of his display. The striker was given just a 3/10. Mbappe was also criticised for being 'eagerly awaited but missed his appointment'.
His miserable showing was a departure from his sensational form so far this season. He had scored 39 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions this term.
PSG boss Luis Enrique was asked about the forward’s troubles after the game but chose not to criticise his star. Speaking after the game, the Spaniard said: “I don’t discuss individual players, especially not after a defeat. I talk about the team and my own work and I’m satisfied with a lot of what I saw on the pitch tonight.
“There’s plenty to improve, of course, and as the manager I take full responsibility. I simply don’t tend to single out individuals, especially not after a loss. The result indicates they were slightly better in certain aspects of the game, but we had chances to make it 3-1, hit the post, and almost scored to make it 2-2.
“In the end, they scored from a corner. I understand the urge to completely tear it all down, but that’s not our approach.”
PSG now have it all to do ahead of next week’s second leg in Spain. Barcelona's goals came from a brace from Raphinha and an Andreas Christensen strike, with Vitinha and Ousmane Dembele scoring for the French side.
