Lee Bonis inspired Larne to title glory last season with his impressive performances earning him international recognition
Lee Bonis has agreed a three-year extension to his current deal with Larne after cross-channel clubs failed to come up with the hefty fee required to prise him away from Inver Park.
As revealed in Sunday Life Sport, the Northern Ireland forward was a man wanted by both Bolton Wanderers and Derby County, while Scottish side Dundee United were also interested in securing his services.
However, Bonis will be remaining at the Irish Premiership champions as the English and Scottish clubs were unable to meet Larne’s valuation of £300,000 for the former Portadown hitman.
Therefore, by signing the new deal he has pledged his future at Inver Park until the summer of 2026.
The 23-year-old has been an astute signing since joining the Larne revolution from Portadown for £100,000 in January 2022. He helped them to their first ever Premiership title last season and recorded 15 goals across all competitions.
That earned him a first international call-up for last month’s European qualifying double-header against Denmark and Kazakhstan, with Michael O’Neill suitably impressed by his strike rate.
Along with Scottish striker Andy Ryan signing a new three-year deal at the weekend, this is another significant re-signing for the champions ahead of both their Champions League bow against HJK Helsinki on Wednesday night and their title defence.
