Arsenal will be hoping to welcome Oleksandr Zinchenko back for this evening's Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.
The Ukraine international has been sidelined with a calf issue since May, missing the Gunners' pre-season and opening day win over Nottingham Forest. His last appearance came in the 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at the end of last summer.
He is now in contention to feature at Selhurst Park after being spotted in training over the weekend and Mikel Arteta's comments on Friday in his pre-match press conference. «Alex has been doing really well,» the Gunners boss said. «He's been training with us and hopefully we're going to have him very, very soon.»
Zinchenko's return comes as a huge boost for Arsenal following Jurrien Timber's injury. The club confirmed last week that the defender had sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury on his right knee following the win over Forest.
The Dutch international sustained the problem after a minor clash with Brennan Johnson in the opening 45 minutes. He came out for the second half but was replaced five minutes later by Takehiro Tomiyasu. «Huge blow. Especially for him after just joining the club,»Arteta said on Thursday.
«To have the injury he has is a huge blow. It is for the team because we recruited him with clear intentions and what he was bringing to the team was evident and he's not going to be able to do it this season for us. We have to adapt. These things happen unfortunately and we have to move on.»
