Leicester failed to create club history by winning a tenth league match in a row as Leeds emerged victorious at the King Power Stadium.
It was a closely-fought contest in the east Midlands on Friday night between the two clubs vying to achieve Premier League promotion this season.
The Foxes went into the match on the back off nine consecutive Championship wins looking to extend their lead over second-placed Ipswich.
A tenth successive victory would have been a club record, and they almost took the lead in the 34th minute through winger Abdul Fatawu.
The 19-year-old cut inside from the right flank, before bending an effort to the far post, with his strike cannoning off the woodwork.
But Leeds, who remain in third spot after their hard-fought three points, had a huge chance of their own in the first half.
They almost broke the deadlock in just the second minute, but Joel Piroe's left-footed strike whistled inches wide of the post.
Just like in the first half, the Yorkshire outfit started off the second period on top and were rewarded for their pressure in the 58th minute.

A James corner was met by Sam Bryam, with his header forcing a great reaction save from Mads Hermansen.
But unfortunately for the hosts, his stop fell straight into the path of French forward Rutter, who had the simple task of tapping home into an empty net from close range.
Leicester pressed for a late equaliser, and almost got back on level terms deep into injury time had it not been for Ilsan Meslier denying Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's point-blank header.
