Levi Colwill absence explained as Liverpool transfer links to Chelsea star won't go away
Levi Colwill missed out on action as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Newcastle United in the early hours of today.
The pre-season friendly was part of the Premier League Summer Series, being held in the USA.
Liverpool are big admirers of defender Colwill, as the ECHO first reported back in March. Jurgen Klopp initially refused to rule out a centre-back signing this summer but it remains to be seen if the midfield rebuild has fully taken priority, with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson close to leaving for Saudi Arabia.
It is also unclear whether there could be any movement on Colwill's future in the current transfer window, with new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino seemingly keen to hold on to the youngster.

Colwill, 20, spent last season on loan at Brighton, and that successful spell has prompted interest in securing a permanent deal from Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi.
Colwill was named on the substitutes bench for this morning's match at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
But he did not make an appearance - and Pochettino suggested after the game that an injury precaution was the reason why.
He said: "Madueke, Noni. He's in Philadelphia, a little tightness in his hamstring but it's not a big thing. Precaution for Thiago [Silva] and Levi [Colwill] and then because we don't have more possibility to play with Angelo [Gabriel] and Lewis [Hall] because we have three players in the same position. It's only Madueke that suffers. Maybe it is a thing that can be sorted in the next few days."
