Jean-Louis Gasset sparked a revival of sorts when he replaced Gennaro Gattuso as manager of Olympique de Marseille in February. However, he is not expected to stay beyond the end of the season. As a result, Marseille are drawing up a managerial shortlist, on which Paulo Fonseca’s name features. According to La Provence, the Lille OSC manager is receptive to Les Phocéens’ interest.
Marseille’s interest in Fonseca is not novel. There was talk of the Portuguese manager making the switch to the Vélodrome last summer before Lille ultimately closed the door to a departure. Fonseca respected this decision, taken by LOSC president Olivier Létang, however, the manager’s contract expires this summer.
Whilst L’Équipe report that Les Dogues have not given up hope of retaining Fonseca, a departure is a very real possibility. Whilst there could be Premier League interest in Fonseca this summer, according to La Provence, the Portuguese head coach would also be open to a move to Marseille.
