Lionel Messi is still attracting the attention of the greatest athletes of all time, despite being injured.
The 2022 World Cup winning captain was out of action for Inter Miami against Houston Dynamo in the US Open Cup final, which the Herons lost 2-1.
Messi was in the stands in Fort Lauderdale with what manager Tata Martino called ‘fatigue’ after a testing run with his country and club.
He witnessed his side fail to add to their Leagues Cup victory in the US’ oldest soccer tournament, but he did get to meet an old foe in the shape of Zidane.
The France legend not only posed with Messi in the dressing room, but also his former teammate turned Miami owner David Beckham.
The former Real Madrid manager has been out of work since leaving the Spanish giants for the second time in 2021.
A three-time Champions League and two-time LaLiga winner with Los Blancos while in the dugout, Zidane inflicted plenty of pain on Messi during their El Clasico rivalry in Spain.
But there’s clearly still plenty of respect between the two, as well as with Beckham.
Messi joined the MLS side from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of his contract, and has so far been one of the biggest attractions in US Sports.
A-list celebrities as big as Will Ferrell, Serena Williams and Michael Jordan have all been in town to watch the Argentine wizard, but none quite compare to Zidane when it comes to footballing royalty.
