Liverpool’s grassroots BlackFest is returning with a programme of music, fashion and more taking place across the city.
2023 promises to be one of the festival's biggest ever years, with events spanning over a three month period and multi-award winning artists set to perform. Now in its sixth year, it will showcase incredible talent at venues such as Unity Theatre, The Palm House, Museum Of Liverpool and The Philharmonic Hall.
The festival will kick off on Sunday August 27 from 12pm, when the Museum Of Liverpool will come alive with colour, live music and celebration. The day will consist of free live music from the likes of Djembe Drumming, performance from the likes of Afrodance Academy and independent black businesses presenting a range of artisan products.
BBC comedy filmed in former Wirral school to start next week
BlackFest Visual Arts will be hosted by Smithdown Social Arts Hub on Smithdown Road with a series of free visual arts workshops and a two week exhibition. The programme will feature artists such as Hellen Songa presenting Mwalula: photography on sustainability and environment, DJ Soulfultiz as a visual life drawing artist, Petronelle showcasing precious Congolese artifacts and Okechukwu Ugonna landscape art of Wirral.
This will launch on October 17 and workshops will take place on 19, 21 and 25 October. Then, there will be a book launch with award winning author, playwright and rapper Ash Nugent at the Liverpool Lighthouse in Anfield September 25.
