Liverpool's squad was missing some notable names as they fly out for their pre-season tour of Singapore.
Jurgen Klopp's side went into the summer knowing there was going to be a revamp in midfield - but not quite to the extent that is taking place.
Their trip to Singapore comes without an official captain in their squad, after Jordan Henderson's £12m deal to join Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq was announced on Thursday morning.
Klopp will soon be expected to name a new captain after Henderson made the move to Saudi Arabia on a staggering £700,000-a-week deal - making him the highest paid England player of all time.
The Reds look set to lose another of their midfield stalwarts in Fabinho, who has also not made the trip.
His absence was expected as he is awaiting confirmation of a £40m move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.
Their departures mean Klopp will be determined to sign another midfielder this summer, following the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
However, they will be light on midfielders for their tour of Singapore as both Thiago Alcantara and youngster Stefan Bajcetic have also not made the trip.
The pair, who did travel to Liverpool's camp in Germany, have been given more time to recover from their respective injuries - with Thiago struggling with a hip issue and Bajcetic an adductor problem.
It leaves Klopp short of options as they face relegated Leicester and Bayern Munich in Singapore.
The Reds are set to make an improved offer for Southampton's Romeo Lavia after having a £38m bid rejected.
They are preparing a revised offer of up to £45m for the 19-year-old midfielder, who otherwise could be looking at a year in the Championship with Southampton.
