Liverpool to make 'improved offer for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia'
Liverpool are preparing to make a second bid for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia.
The Reds saw a first offer of £37m knocked back on Tuesday, but are still hopeful of landing the teenager.
They have continued negotiations with Southampton and believe a deal can be struck, according to The Athletic.
Southampton are demanding a total package of £50m, and Liverpool feel their improved bid, which will include add-ons, could be deemed acceptable.
Personal terms with the player are not expected to be an issue.
The Saints only signed Lavia 12 months ago from Manchester City in a deal worth £14m.
The 19-year-old featured in 29 top flight games last season, and was a shining light at St Mary's, but was unable to keep the club in the Premier League.
He now looks likely to leave this summer, and Liverpool are hoping to secure his signature as they aim to bolster their midfield options.
Liverpool signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton last month, and have since added attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai to their ranks, but they also lost several midfielder at the end of last season.
James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita all left when their contracts expired in June, and captain Jordan Henderson is on the verge of joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.
Fabinho could also leave for the Middle East after talks with Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad.
This would leave Liverpool short in the middle of the park, and they have set their sights on signing Lavia to try and fill the void ahead of the new season.
