SSE Airtricity First Division: Longford Town 2 Kerry FC 1
First half goals from Francis Campbell and Luke Wade-Slater saw bottom side Longford Town record their first win of the season, in what was their 13th game. It was a fourth defeat in a row for Kerry FC. They pulled a game back through Ryan Kelliher in the 72nd minute but couldn’t get an equaliser.
It was an even opening, although the home side enjoyed most of the possession.
In the sixth minute Jordan Adeyemo had a chance for the Town but headed over. Down the other end Victor Udeze’s header was off target.
Town broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute. Conor Crowley’s corner found Wade-Slater, he got a touch to it and it was headed to the net by Campbell.
Four minutes later, the home side doubled their advantage and it was a set-piece again. Crowley’s corner met the head of Wade-Slater and he made no mistake.
It could’ve got worse for Kerry in the 33rd minute. Kyle O’Connor’s cross was put out for a corner by Kerry keeper Antonio Tuta but Dean O’Shea headed over from the corner.
Adeyemo had two chances within the opening 10 minutes of the second half but he headed both efforts over the bar.
Kerry manager Conor McCarthy hoped to change things around with new personnel and had emptied his bench before the hour mark in the hope that his side could get something out of the game.
In the 60th minute, Evison Rramani’s effort from distance went over the bar. Ethan Kos put in a fantastic tackle to deny Adeyemo in the 68th minute.
Minutes later Kerry pulled a goal back. Daniel Okwute’s ball met Ryan Kelliher and he found the net with a superb bicycle kick. Kerry had a chance to draw level in the 77th minute. A free from Sean O’Connell met the head of Okwute but he directed
