Luton Town boss Rob Edwards has revealed Tom Lockyer is 'doing well' and is 'in really good spirits' just over a week on from suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch.
Hatters skipper Lockyer collapsed during their clash against Bournemouth on Saturday December 16, with the game subsequently being abandoned.
The 29-year-old has since left hospital after having a defibrillator fitted, with Luton paying a special tribute to him ahead of their match against Newcastle last Saturday.
Andros Townsend then celebrated his winning goal with a shirt bearing the defender's name.
And Edwards - who similarly paid tribute to Lockyer following the Newcastle win - provided an update on his health in the build-up to their Boxing Day clash against Sheffield United.
'He's good thanks for asking,' Edwards told Amazon Prime. 'We've been in touch as we have everyday since it happened.
'He's in really good spirits, he's incredibly brave and he's got a lot of support around him.
'He watched the game the other day and he was cheering us on from home so yeah, he's doing well.'
Edwards also insisted Lockyer - who has made more than 100 appearances for the Hatters since joining from Charlton in 2020 - has provided inspiration for his side.
He added: 'It was nice to be able to beat Newcastle after the week we had because it had been incredibly emotional for all concerned.
'I want the players playing with emotion, I like the players doing that as long as it doesn't take it over the edge.
'Players, clubs, fans and especially these two teams today, they want to see them on the front foot. I want my players to play with passion. We want to maintain that.
