Manchester City have put the pressure on Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League title race with a 4-2 victory at Crystal Palace.
In the day's early kick-off, Pep Guardiola's side went up against the Eagles in south London. The reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium saw a shock 2-2 draw earlier in the season so there was some hope in north London and on Merseyside for another favourable result.
In the end that was not the case, with City the victors by two goals. Jean-Philippe Mateta had put Palace ahead within three minutes, though the returning Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne were highly influential in turning the match around.
As a result, the Premier League table has been altered ahead of later matches in the weekend. City join Liverpool on 70 points, though only jump above Arsenal into second with a marginally inferior goal difference. The Gunners have accumulated 68 points with their test against Brighton to come at 5:30pm on Saturday evening, while Liverpool travel to Manchester United on Sunday.
After Arsenal's hard-fought 0-0 draw at the Etihad Stadium last Sunday, the outlook was bright. They led the way in the goalscoring department with a difference of +46, while City trailed with +38.
Now, following the midweek fixtures and City's early kick-off today, Guardiola's men have scored four goals in each of their last two matches and while the gap remains the same, are showing signs they are capable of chipping away at the goal difference in their remaining seven.
